The House of the Congress of Deputies approved the Law on Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide. The law incorporates the guidelines provided by the European directive regulating this technology (Directive 2009/31/EC), adapting them to the Spanish industrial, geological and energy reality and establishing a legal basis for safely deploying this technology.
The law complements the adoption by Spain of the EU Energy and Climate Change package for reducing by 2020 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 20%.
